  It has been the performer's intention with The Singing Clarinet, to show the "quasi" vocal features this instrument is capable of, and the impact that its versatile and velvety voice had on composers, performers and public in the early nineteenth century.

 Although these qualities were already brilliantly used by Mozart years before in his Concert K. 622 and his Quintet K. 581, it was in the nineteenth century (after the design of instruments that allowed for a greater sound and technical execution) when composers found in its timbre, of middle register and exquisite sweetness, the ideal resource for creating works of the subtler vocal character.

   In the early nineteenth century, Europe saw the development of two major musical centers. On the one hand, Germany and the creation of the romantic opera by Carl Maria von Weber and the development of the Lied with Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn. On the other hand, the bel canto with its technical coloratura, was the cornerstone in Italy, from the hands of its greatest exponents Gioacchino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti.

        Luis Fernández has developed an interesting career as a soloist and chamber musician. He received prizes at the Juventudes Musicales National Competition and at the Intercentros-Melómano National Competition. He performed at the Festival Ensems de Música Contemporánea (Valencia), the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza (Granada), the Bienal del Mediterráneo de Música Contemporánea (Greece), the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza Ciudad de Úbeda and the Semana de Música Religiosa (Cuenca). He also played at important venues such as Auditorio Nacional (Madrid), Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona), Auditorio de Zaragoza and Palau de la Música (Valencia), as well as in many European countries.
