“Shades of Melancholy” aims to express and show the multiple hues of melancholy, a feeling especially represented when discussing the Russian authors Sergei Rachmaninoff and Alexander Scriabin. In addition, by putting these composers together we may see how they walked almost opposite paths in composition, despite being part of the same generation, coming from the same School, and being educated in the same tradition. Here is a clear illustration of dualism of the “romantic epigone” and the “modernist visionary”.
Educated in the Russian tradition in the Reina Sofía School of Music, Pierre Delignies offers us a very personal and intimate debut album. As an encore, he includes his own transcription of the song Morgen! by Richard Strauss as a perfect ending for a set of pieces where auto-expression is the main purpose.
Delignies has been laureated both nationally and internationally, and has performed in numerous venues and festivals, such as the National Auditorium in Madrid, Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao, Kursaal in San Sebastián and Festivals Palace in Santander.

“Shades of Melancholy” nace de la voluntad de representar y mostrar la melancolía en sus múltiples matices. Un sentimiento que a través de estos autores rusos, Sergei Rachmaninoff y Alexander Scriabin, cobra especial importancia. Por otra parte, incluir estos dos compositores en un mismo trabajo pretende poner de relieve cómo dos artistas de la misma generación, procedentes de la misma escuela y habiendo bebido de la misma tradición, abordan su creación desde posiciones casi opuestas. Partiendo ambos de la misma base nos encontraremos con una confrontación entre el “epígono romántico” y el “visionario modernista”.
Pierre Delignies, educado en la tradición rusa en la Escuela de Música Reina Sofía, nos ofrece un relato muy personal e íntimo en este primer trabajo discográfico. Además, como propina, incluye su propia transcripción de la canción Morgen! de Richard Strauss, como colofón a una serie de piezas en las que la auto-expresión es el principal objetivo.
Delignies cuenta con premios nacionales e internacionales, ha actuado en numerosas salas y festivales incluyendo Auditorio Nacional en Madrid, Palacio Euskalduna en Bilbao, Kursaal en San Sebastián o Palacio de Festivales en Santander.
