In the current musical world Hispano-american music continues evolving through interchanges which enrich the past with a new outlook and, notwithstanding, take on an identity which is unmarked by boundaries.
A good example of this is to be found in the works we present today, as it unites the broad spectrum of possibilities which a composer can convey to us. This is the case with the composer Eduardo Morales-Caso. It isn’t so much about listening to a versatility of techniques and different orientations, but rather the search for the criteria which forge a cohesive discourse through precision from the very beginnings of his compositional work.
The premise addressed in this CD is both solid and consistent and the works collected here are the result of an intense reflection about which types of ideas can maintain the unity of the piece and the overall impression of the chosen compositions with one sole intention- to demonstrate his individual tendency towards a synthesis where melodic canto and timbre move forwards together hand in hand in a perfect symbiosis which prevails throughout the entire composition.
The path chosen by Morales-Caso highlighting the development of his subject matter is something we are privy to from the very beginning of the recording. Behind all of his works there are many hours of elaboration which generate a plethora of ideas, textures and colours which in turn convert almost every musical element into a theme, including chords, isolated notes and rests. One of the motifs which is always of high import in his narrative is the way in which he expresses the beginning of his compositions. This expression determines the course which the musical phrases take on in a journey in which the melodic lines continually advance towards diverse culminations. From there the lyrical character, which is perpetually present in his music, independent from the selected format, soars.
